Frontman says band would like to do 'something of their own' in 2014

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has hinted that the band could play a series of big 'outdoor' shows next summer.

Speaking to Gigwise, the singer said that after the band's headlining performance at this year's Glastonbury festival, they would like to play some similarly large-scale gigs in 2014.

"I wanna do some big shows next summer as well, you know we're not going to do Glastonbury again," he said. "But it'd be nice to something of our own perhaps next summer. Maybe an outdoor show, maybe an underwater show."

Yesterday (October 31), Arctic Monkeys were forced to cancel a show scheduled for the same evening in Birmingham, in addition to a gig at Glasgow Hydro, which was set to take place on November 1. The gigs were scrapped due to Turner being diagnosed with laryngitis.

The band are still set to play their homecoming show at Sheffield Motorpoint Arena on November 2.

Arctic Monkeys will play:

Sheffield Motorpoint Arena (November 2)
Birmingham LG Arena (20)
Glasgow Hydro Arena (21)
