Band reveal festival appearance on Twitter

Arcade Fire are to headline Friday night (June 27) at Glastonbury 2014, the band have confirmed.

The Montreal-based band today (December 19) posted a picture to Twitter which confirms Glastonbury among four June dates in Europe. They are the first Glastonbury headliner to be revealed.

Arcade Fire were a strong bet for a set at the Worthy Farm festival after frontman Win Butler told BBC host Jo Whiley that the band would play UK festivals next summer by saying fans they should "get [their] wellies ready". They are also due to play a major date at Dublin's Marlay Park on June 29.

"It's such a communal rite of passage in the UK and there's this communal spirit," Win Butler told Zane Lowe. "It'll be at a point of touring when we're scary good. We're super excited to strap on our wellies and let it rip."

Butler also guaranteed good weather for the gig. "The Friday is going to be a gorgeous, Californian sunshine day - if it's not, we'll refund your ticket," he told Lowe.

Arcade Fire will play:

London Earls Court (June 6, 7, 2014)
Glastonbury Festival (June 27)
Dublin Marlay Park on (June 29)
