November 1, 2013 16:33

Singer's latest LP uploaded to YouTube

MIA is streaming her new album 'Matangi' in full – scroll down to the bottom of the page and click to listen.

The long-awaited LP will be officially released next week (November 4), but the singer has uploaded it to YouTube. The record includes the singles 'Bad Girls', 'Come Walk With Me' and 'Bring The Noize' and is the follow-up to her 2010 effort 'Maya'.

In a recent NME interview, MIA said she had been determined that the album wouldn't jump on the dubstep bandwagon. "In the last two years it's been cool to do dark shit," she said. "Everyone's been slowing your shit down and making you slur. That's not 'Matangi'."

She also revealed that producer Dave 'Switch' Taylor nearly died while working on the record after he attempted a daredevil stunt which went badly wrong. "He fell off a cliff and nearly died when he came into the studio," MIA said. "There was a 100ft cliff and [Switch] tried to do a dive into the sea but he slipped before he jumped and he fell. He was unconscious and all his ribs were broken and he had to go to hospital. Then when he came out we made 'Come Walk With Me'."

The 'Matangi' tracklisting in full is as follows:

'Karmageddon'
'MATANGI'
'Only 1 U'
'Warriors'
'Come Walk With Me'

Hit-Boy Debuts 'HITstory' Mixtape: Listen

by Brennan Carley, N.Y.  |   August 07, 2012 5:30 EDT

Rapper/producer Hit-Boy leaves "Paris" behind and takes his music to a new level on his mixtape, " HITstory."

Q&A: Hit-Boy on 'Ni--as in Paris' Success & His Own Rap Career

Though best known for working with Nicki Minaj, Drake, Rihanna, Kanye West and Jay-Z ("Ni**as in Paris) -- the G.O.O.D. Music artist has no trouble captivating listeners on his own.

His first full-length project as a rapper, "HITstory," showcases the producer's signature beats in addition to some fine-tuned rhymes. Songs like "Brake Lights" and "She Belongs To The City" crackle with well-deserved bravado. The rapper proves his potency as a rapper in a matter of minutes.

Guests on the mixtape include Big Sean, Kid Cudi, John Legend, and Chip Tha Ripper, but Hit-Boy is at his finest on solo tracks like "Fan," the track sonically similar to "Ni**as in Paris."

Listen To Mumford & Sons' First 'Babel' Single, 'I Will Wait'

by Brennan Carley, N.Y.  |   August 07, 2012 4:35 EDT

In typically folksy fashion, Mumford & Sons have returned with "I Will Wait" the debut single off the band's upcoming sophomore effort, "Babel," that was unveiled online on Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 7).

At times both hopeful and hopeless, "I Will Wait" showcases bandleader Marcus Mumford's maturation both in terms of songwriting and singing. It fits in comfortably with the songs on the band's debut album, "Sigh No More," yet signals a concerted and promising step forward into heavier territory.

Mumford & Sons Debut New Songs at Tour Kickoff

"I feel heavy into your arms," he sings, before optimistically rhapsodizing about how "these days of darkness which we've known / will blow away with this new sun."

The band performed "I Will Wait" and a handful of other new songs at its tour kickoff in Hoboken, N.J. last week. Their trek continues with their first "Gentlemen of the Road" stopover in Bristol, Conn. this Saturday.

Meanwhile, "Babel" is set to be released on Sept. 25 on Glassnote Records. "Sigh No More," which earned the group a Grammy nod for Best New Artist, has sold 2.4 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Listen: Kanye West's Five Best GOOD Friday Songs

On Friday (Apr. 6) -- the actual Good Friday holiday -- Kanye West revived his GOOD Friday release series, which features a new single posted online every Friday as a free giveaway to the rapper's rabid fans, with "Mercy," a new track featuring 2 Chainz, Big Sean and Pusha T. The series originally began in 2010 while West was gearing up for his fifth full-length, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy": by releasing a few tracks from the album as freebies and putting out some leftover cuts for the fans, West turned an uncomplicated weekly release program into the coolest new way to issue new music.

Kanye West and DJ Khaled Release 'Theraflu' Song: Listen

Now that "Mercy," which previews West's G.O.O.D. Music compilation, has hit the Web, take a listen to Kanye West's five best GOOD Friday releases so far, from classic "Fantasy" cuts to awesome one-off singles.

5. "Christmas in Harlem"
Featuring: Cam'ron, Jim Jones, Vado, CyHi da Prynce, Pusha T, Musiq Soulchild, Teyana Taylor, Big Sean
Released: Friday, Dec. 17, 2010

For the first GOOD Friday song after the release of "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," Yeezy issued a holiday-themed banger, complete with a lovely choral hook and nearly impossible number of featured performers. Big Sean, who brags that he's "rocking dashiki's with a yamulkah,"is on fire here.

4. "The Joy"
Featuring: Pete Rock, Jay-Z, Charlie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield, Kid Cudi
Released: Friday, Oct. 29, 2010

This soulful jam eventually made it onto the deluxe edition of "Watch The Throne," and for good reason -- its aching sample matches Yeezy's self-loathing rhymes and Jay's disaffected coolness.

3. "So Appalled"
Featuring: Jay-Z, Pusha T, RZA, Swizz Beatz, CyHi da Prynce
Released: Sept. 24, 2010

There's nothing too fancy about "So Appalled" -- the track, which made it onto "MBDTF," simply showcases four MCs (Kanye, Jay, Pusha and CyHi) absolutely murdering their verses and moving over the sweeping production as one cohesive unit. Who has the best verse? A case can be made for all four rappers.

2. "Good Friday"
Featuring: Common, Pusha T, Big Sean, Kid Cudi, Charlie Wilson
Released: Sept. 10, 2010

The spright, carefree vibe of "Good Friday" never fit in thematically with the dark, dramatic cuts of Kanye's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," which is presumably why it didn't make the finished album. Still, it's a shame, because "Good Friday" is positively vibrant. From Pusha' assured boasting to Kid Cudi's selfless hook-assisting to the singsong chorus, "Good Friday" holds up with the best posse cuts of this fresh decade.

1. "Monster"
Featuring: Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Bon Iver
Released: Aug. 27, 2010

GOOD Fridays may have officially launched with the "Power" remix a week earlier, but the series went from "This is cool" to "Oh wow, I have to hear this new Kanye song every single week" when "Monster" was released. The "MBDTF" highlight possesses a stunning amount of control over its many disparate pieces: Bon Iver's monster-movie intro leads to a quick Rick Ross verse, and later, Nicki Minaj goes H.A.M. in her best bars to date. Here's hoping that, if G.O.O.D. Fridays continue past "Mercy," Yeezy produces another "Monster."
