A man is fighting for his life after being knocked unconscious at the Manchester bash

A man who is critically ill in hospital after being assaulting at Parklife Weekender in Manchester on Saturday (June 7) was protecting his girlfriend from being hit repeatedly with an inflatable toy.

As Manchester Evening News reports, a 26-year-old man was knocked unconscious in front of the Main Stage of the festival while watching Snoop Dogg at around 9:15pm.

Off-duty paramedics who were in the audience gave the man heart massage at the scene before stewards moved him to a 20-bed medical facility on site. However, he deteriorated and was rushed to North Manchester General Hospital. He has now been moved to Hope Hospital where he remains in a critical condition as doctors treat a bleed to his brain.

Greater Manchester Police say the man they believe is responsible for the attack is approximately 25 years old, 6ft tall, with short, curly, black hair shaved at the sides.

A spokesperson for the Parklife festival told NME yesterday: "We pride ourselves on a history of Parklife Weekender without any incidents. We regret that an isolated incident has taken place at this year's event, however medics were on the scene within minutes of it taking place.

"We will update as soon as we can and we are in constant contact with the medical services and police to help as much as possible. We urge festival goers to help the police identify the individual involved in the incident and contact them if they have any information at all."

In a separate incident, two men were stabbed at the same festival, also on Saturday (June 7). Reports suggest the men were wounded 'during a brawl' at the festival in the city's Heaton Park. One of the men was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary with serious but non-life threatening injuries whilst the other was treated on site. Two men were arrested after police were called to the site at around 7.30pm.

The first day of Parklife Weekender (June 7) saw performances from Snoop Dogg, A$AP Rocky and Rudimental while Sunday (June 8) brought a headline set from Foals as well as performances from Jamie xx, Warpaint and Disclosure.
