LOS ANGELES | Tue Jun 18, 2013 1:17pm EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Teen pop star Justin Bieber struck a photographer with his Ferrari sports car while driving away from a comedy club in Los Angeles on Monday night, but the accident was not considered a hit-and-run, police said.

Video taken outside the Laugh Factory comedy club showed Bieber behind the wheel of his white Ferrari, surrounded by photographers as he was pulling away.

Celebrity website TMZ said Bieber motioned the photographers to clear out of the way but apparently pinned one between his Ferrari and a parked car as he pulled out. He then drove away.

"It was not a hit-and-run," Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Bruce Borihanh said on Tuesday. "The investigation is ongoing."

He said the photographer's injuries were not life-threatening.

A representative for Bieber declined to comment.

Bieber is under investigation in a separate driving incident in May after his neighbors complained that he had been speeding through his gated Los Angeles-area community.

The Canadian singer has been the subject of a series of headline-grabbing incidents over the past year. German authorities seized a capuchin monkey Bieber had kept as a pet after he was unable to provide proper documentation for the animal at Munich airport. And in London, the singer scuffled with a photographer outside a hotel during a European tour.

Right Now: Justin Bieber Smokes Dope, Snoop Lion Goes 3D, Vibe Acquired, CD Devaluation...

I blame Universal Music Group.  We bring you to Sweden, where Justin Bieber's tour bus was recently raided by Stockholm police.  The cops sniffed marijuana from the outside (while Justin was on stage), and subsequently discovered an unnamed drug (probably weed) and a stun gun.  All which goes to show: if you search a tour bus, you'll probably find something.

That's funny, I thought I just heard you say you were unfamiliar with Snoop Lion aka Snoop Dogg's the Reincarnated Track Notes 3D App.  Of course, the behind-the-scenes, 3D-enabled release is part of a 'transmedia' Reincarnated release strategy that also includes an album, feature film, app, photo book and a non-profit initiative.  The app is available on the iPad, iPhone and on the web (Chrome or Safari support the 3D features), and is best experienced in the lobby and studio areas of Universal Music Group headquarters.

And the gobble-up of once-storied music magazines continues.  The latest getting plucked is Vibe, a good ol' pulp brand that must now forge a digital future.  The buyer is SpinMedia, a music publication and blog conglomerage that recently purchased SPIN and changed its namesake accordingly.

Look closer, and CDs are plunging in more ways than one.   The typical metric used is units, though the price of CDs have been sinking drastically for years.  According to tracking from WalletPop and Mint.com, the sticker price on a CD slipped 26.98 percent between 2000 and 2010, though price tags have been positively cliff-diving in recent years.  Indeed, a recent field trip to Wal-Mart revealed a slew of $5 CDs, and insiders have credited the 2011 bump in album sales on extremely-discounted discs.

More ahead!  Written while listening to Diplo and Dillon Francis.

STOCKHOLM | Thu Apr 25, 2013 8:29pm EDT

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Teen idol Justin Bieber on Thursday seemed to shrug off the latest controversy surrounding his European tour after Swedish police said they had found drugs on his tour bus but could not link them to any single person.

Bieber, 19, has made headlines in the past two months for showing up late for his own London concert, walking shirtless through airport security in Poland, posting a cartoon of himself in bed with a young woman, and expressing the hope that Holocaust victim Anne Frank would have been a "belieber" like his millions of fans.

On Thursday, Swedish police said an officer smelled marijuana on an empty tour bus outside the hotel where Bieber was staying before his Stockholm concert on Wednesday.

They said they found a small amount of drugs but had no suspects and did not plan further action.

"Some of the rumors about me....where do people even get this stuff. whatever...back to the music," Bieber tweeted on Thursday to his 38 million Twitter followers after announcing he had arrived in Finland.

Representatives of the Canadian singer, who started his career as a squeaky-clean 15-year-old, had no comment.

In Stockholm, police spokesman Kjell Lindgren said the drugs were being sent for analysis. "We don't know who had the drugs or who smoked them, so it will be hard to link them with any individual," Lindgren said.

Bieber has been on the road with barely a break since September 2012 on his "Believe" world tour, where he has been greeted by screaming young girls and blaring headlines for some bizarre behavior.

In March, he abandoned a pet monkey at Munich airport because he did not have the right papers, and flew back to Los Angeles for 36 hours and into an altercation with a neighbor.

Last week, he came under fire in the media on grounds of taste after he wrote in a guest book at the Anne Frank museum in Amsterdam that the 15-year-old Holocaust victim and diarist was inspiring and "hopefully she would have been a belieber".

The museum later defended Bieber, saying they were delighted he had visited and that his comments were innocent.

LOS ANGELES | Tue Mar 26, 2013 8:17pm EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop sensation Justin Bieber flew from Europe back to his Los Angeles area home on Tuesday and into an argument with one of his neighbors - the latest in a series of odd incidents involving the teen singer.

Deputies were called to the 19-year-old's house in Calabasas, California, on Tuesday morning after a neighbor claimed that he had been threatened and struck by Bieber, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.

A police report alleging battery and threats by Bieber had been filed and was being investigated, Whitmore said. No charges have been filed against the Canadian pop star and Whitmore declined to give details, citing an ongoing investigation.

Under California law, a misdemeanor battery charge can include unwanted touching or spitting.

The alleged altercation took place after the "Boyfriend" singer flew overnight from Poland, startling photographers and Lodz airport officials by stripping off his shirt on a freezing evening as he walked through security and to his private jet.

Bieber's publicist did not return calls for comment on Tuesday's incident, which follows odd behavior by the singer during his European tour, including turning up late for a London concert and wearing a gas mask on a night out.

A source close to the star said the Calabasas dispute stemmed from a neighbor who came by to complain about parties at the house while Bieber was away. Words were exchanged but no physical altercation took place, the source said, citing the singer's security detail.

Celebrity website TMZ.com said the dispute was provoked by Bieber driving a newly delivered Ferrari up and down the street at high speed early on Tuesday morning. The Bieber source disagreed with that claim.

Bieber has been playing concerts around Europe for his "Believe" tour for several weeks, and his next concert is scheduled for Munich, Germany, on March 28.

LONDON | Mon Mar 11, 2013 9:05am EDT

LONDON (Reuters) - Canadian singer Justin Bieber has canceled one of two planned concerts in Portugal this week, the venue in Lisbon said on its website on Monday.

A source close to the singer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the cancellation was not linked to Bieber's collapse on-stage in London last week, which forced the teen sensation to take a 20-minute break for oxygen and later to visit a hospital.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, Justin Bieber was forced to cancel the second performance in Portugal, March 12," a statement said on the website of the Pavilhao Atlantico.

"The Canadian singer is eager to play for the Portuguese fans on March 11," it added. Ticket holders for the canceled gig were entitled to a refund if they claimed it within a month.

The Bieber source did not give a reason for the cancellation, but local media in Portugal reported that tickets sales for the March 12 gig, which was added to his itinerary in February, were lower than organizers had hoped.

Bieber described his visit to London as a "rough week".

As well as the collapse, the 19-year-old was caught on film in an expletive-filled altercation with a photographer, showed up nearly two hours late for a show leading to widespread anger and was labeled a "pop brat" by a leading tabloid.

Discovered on YouTube in 2008, Bieber has built an online following of tens of millions of fans and is one of the pop world's biggest stars. In February, he became the youngest artist to land five chart-topping albums in the key U.S. market.

LOS ANGELES | Mon Jan 14, 2013 5:04pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop star Justin Timberlake has brought his trademark sexy crooner voice back with his first new song in five years, receiving a warm welcome from fans and critics on Monday on his long-awaited return to music.

The singer released "Suit & Tie" featuring Jay-Z on Sunday night, and within hours, the song had topped the U.S. iTunes chart. The new single also came with the announcement of a new album, "The 20/20 Experience," to be released later this year.

The new song, produced by Timberlake's long-time collaborator Timbaland, features the singer's falsetto voice over a laid-back, hip-hop beat, fusing R&B and pop sounds.

Critics drew on Timberlake's newly married status - the singer wed actress Jessica Biel last October - as a possible inspiration for the track.

Rolling Stone Magazine reviewer Jody Rosen called the single "a gift to the world's wedding DJs ... an ode to dressing to the nines and going dancing."

Pitchfork music website reviewer Stephen Deusner said the track was "one hell of a wedding reception jam, as bubbly as champagne," while Billboard's Jason Lipschultz called the song a "sleek, wholly assured dance number."

Timberlake, 31, who teased fans with cryptic Twitter messages last week, quickly became a trending topic on social media, along with the song.

MTV Buzzworthy's editor, Tamar Anitai, said the avid online response was no surprise, given Timberlake's vast fan base and the long wait for new music.

"None of his fans have gone anywhere. He's the type of artist who can take 7 years between albums and his fans are still waiting outside his studio door," Anitai told Reuters.

The singer's last album, "FutureSex/LoveSounds" in 2006, produced six hit singles including "SexyBack," which brought the singer four Grammy awards.

ROOM FOR TWO JUSTINS IN POP MUSIC?

Timberlake rose to fame as one-fifth of 1990's boy band N'Sync, becoming a pin-up for his good looks. He dated fellow singer Britney Spears.

After N'Sync parted ways in 2002, Timberlake launched his solo career with a new look and edgier sound in his debut solo album "Justified," with songs like "Cry Me A River" and "Rock Your Body," becoming chart hits. The album won a Grammy award.

His "FutureSex/LoveSounds" album arrived at the forefront of a new sound in the pop charts, fusing pop, R&B, hip hop and dance.

"'FutureSex' is what people are holding onto because it had that really futuristic sound from Timbaland," Anitai said.

Timberlake took a musical hiatus the last five years to focus on his acting career. He appeared in 2010 Facebook film "The Social Network," 2011's "Friends with Benefits" and last year's "The Trouble With The Curve," alongside Clint Eastwood.

During Timberlake's time away from music, a new Justin blazed a trail onto the pop charts, Canadian teenage pop phenomenon Justin Bieber, who has drawn comparisons to Timberlake for his inclusion of hip hop and R&B in his music.

Bieber, who has more than 32 million Twitter followers, tweeted a tip of the hat to Timberlake after the "SexyBack" singer posted his teaser on Thursday, saying "i have heard some stuff. u got a good reason to be ready. #greatmusic."

"There is room for two Justins, but Justin Timberlake is the original Justin and I think there's always going to be room for him," Anitai said.

Rep: No New Justin Timberlake Album

by Billboard Staff  |   August 07, 2012 1:30 EDT

For a hot minute, it looked like Justin Timberlake was finally in the studio working on his much-much-much-anticipated third album. Producer Jim Beanz, who notably co-wrote Britney Spears' "Gimme More," updated UK site Digital Spy about progress being made on Timbaland's "Shock Value 3," a project that Timberlake is helping with.

"It's still in the early stages, but they have a lot of tracks," Beanz stated. "While I've been over here in the UK they've been working, so by the time I get back they'll have a whole load of ideas and I'm going to have to catch up!"

However, the headline "Justin Timberlake working on 'crazy' new album" caused mass head-scratching. New album by the man behind "FutureSex/LoveSounds"? Nope.

Timberlake's publicist tells Billboard that while it's true the superstar is collaborating with Timbaland, there are no plans for a third solo album. Further, Timberlake is currently shooting a movie, "Runner, Runner," in Puerto Rico.

Upon its release in 2006, "FutureSex/LoveSounds" peaked at No.1 on both the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. Timberlake's solo debut, "Justified," peaked at No. 2 on both charts.

NEW YORK | Thu Jul 12, 2012 4:19pm EDT

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Singer Taylor Swift edged out teen heart-throb Justin Bieber as the highest-earning celebrity under 30, taking in $57 million, as women dominated the top spots on a list released by Forbes.com on Thursday.

Bieber, who brought in an estimated $55 million, was the only male among the top five earners, who included Rihanna at No. 3 with $53 million, followed by Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.

"We are seeing a convergence of these talented women who know how to work the system," said Dorothy Pomerantz, the Los Angeles bureau chief for Forbes.

"The things they have in common, obviously they write great hits, are strong personalities. That really helps them from a publicity point of view. They connect with their fans," she added.

Kristen Stewart, who was the highest paid actress last year with an estimated $34.5 million in earnings, captured the No. 7 spot and was the only actress in the top 10.

Stewart, a lead player in the "The Twilight Saga" films, also had a hit with "Snow White and the Huntsman" and is considered one of Hollywood's up-and-coming stars.

Her co-star in the "Twilight" films and real-life boyfriend, Robert Pattinson, came in at No. 10 with earnings of $26.5 million.

"'Twilight' has done wonderful things for these kids' bank accounts," said Pomerantz, adding that they are now making $12 million per film in the franchise. "What will be telling is how they do post-'Twilight.'"

To compile the list Forbes analyzed album and concert sales, movies earnings, profit participation, advertising work and endorsements between May 2011 and May 2012. Managers, lawyers, agents and other insiders were also consulted.

Justin Bieber Releasing 2nd Fragrance: 'Girlfriend'

by Gregory DelliCarpini Jr.  |   June 14, 2012 9:15 EDT

Justin Bieber's debut fragrance "Someday" had such stunning success the singer is releasing a second. The Canadian star's new scent, dubbed "Girlfriend," scheduled to breeze through Macy's stores the week of June 18.

Justin Bieber, 'Believe': Track-By-Track Review

The hot new fragrance is contained in a pink and purple spray bottle masked in a structural criss-crossed cage contraption, slightly resembling the bottle of his real life girlfriend, Selena Gomez's, perfume.

The Biebs is promoting the new scent with a sing-off competition where fans can send in videos of themselves covering Justin's single "Boyfriend" substituted with the word "Girlfriend." A few chosen participants will get their video aired during his June 21st NBC Special and a very special select will find their creations on a 60-second international commercial for the perfume.

Will you be Justin's Girlfriend this summer? Or at least will be smelling like her?

Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' Video: A 15-Step Analysis

Imagine you're Justin Bieber. You're an international pop superstar with swag seeping out of your teenage pores. You just released your first "adult" single, "Boyfriend," and you want a killer visual to shine like you're laying in the snow. So what do you do? Hire Director X, round up some sick cars and beautiful people, and hit the rooftop just before sunset, of course.

Justin Bieber to Perform at 2012 Billboard Music Awards

In 3 minutes and 31 seconds, the "Boyfriend" video (which premiered on Thursday, May 3) offers a slew of super-cool images to coincide with Bieber's musical skill, emotional maturity and overall swagginess. There are too many great moments in the clip to count, but here are 15 of our favorite:

Bieber's Watching You (0:04 into the video)
He gazes up at the camera with icy confidence. "Oh, hello, were you looking for me? I've been right here all along."

Look At This Video! On My Phone! (0:22)
Bieber's world is actually being voyeuristically admired by two attractive ladies in an equally attractive convertible! They are LOVING the Biebs! But why not go inside and watch the video on TV or your laptop, girls? Bieber should be appreciated in high-def glory.

Watch Out For the Shadow Hands, Justin! (0:30)
The first 30 seconds end with a bunch of anonymous hands grasping our hero and pulling him into the darkness, like the ghouls dragging Willy Lopez to the netherworld in "Ghost." It's a disastrous second of footage for Bieber, but thankfully...

IT'S ALL FAKE! (0:31)
That's right, the first 30 seconds of the video are just icicle-filled fodder for the REAL video, which gets a proper introduction and rooftop setting. The audible is abrupt and recalls a "REEEE-MIX!" treatment, but feels like the work of an evil genius: after all, young Bieber has just tricked us into watching his beautiful antics for an extra 30 seconds. World domination comes from subtle techniques, and entrancing our eyeballs for an additional half-minute is the slyest of moves.

Falsetto Countdown (1:00)
Classic Biebs, in control behind the wheel, helps us count down to the falsetto reveal. The ladies look on, fascinated by the promise of his falsetto, as Justin slips in an extra 'swag,' as he always should.

Dramatic Glasses Take-Down (1:08)
"Hey girl... let me talk to you," a pensive Bieber sings as he slowly removes his shades and ever-so-slightly furrows his brow. The viewer cannot tell what Bieber is looking at, but judging from his grave expression, he's looking staring at the most beautiful woman in the world or has just seen a ghost on the rooftop. This face, my friends, could one day get Bieber an Oscar.

Too Cool For Driving Safety (1:17)
It's one thing to do some donuts in your tricked-out car. It's entirely another to be so good at doing donuts that you can calmly sing into the camera without even peeking out the windshield at where you're headed. This in-control shot could someday lead to Bieber starring in "Fast & The Furious 6: All Roads To Canada."

"Swaggy" (1:50)
Did Bieber just do a second-long Dougie on the word "swaggy"? Is that even legal? Did Cali Swag District just change its name to Cali Swaggy District? Clearly, we weren't ready for this.

Bieber, Guitarist (1:51)
Forget the dancing people around him. Why would Bieber want to boogie when he can serenade their souls and demonstrate his artistry? The teen star's pained expression and gentle strumming are enough to woo any potential girlfriend.

Mystery Girl Appears (2:10)
For most of the video, Bieber is preoccupied with a single girl who sort of resembles his real-life lady Selena Gomez. But who is this actress sitting in the passenger seat of a car, eyeing Bieber and looking kind of angry about this whole rooftop-dancing affair? Why isn't she out dancing too? Is she scared? Maybe her moves aren't fly. But do you think Bieber and his friends would really judge her like that? We're lost on this one.

Backseat Seduction (2:20)
Bieber's chilling with his girl in the backseat of his car, leaving the party behind for a little intimacy. His arm is smoothly wrapped around her, and his hand rises to meet hers. His head nudges up against hers, and when the Biebs breaks out the falsetto and pleads, "So give me a chance...," resistance is futile. When Bieber swags on you in a backseat, you're powerless to his charm.

"Chunky Bieber" (2:58)
Sometimes, legends are created over time. Other times, they emerge fully formed and presented to the world. Such is the case with "Chunky Bieber." Someone get this man his own 3 minutes and 31 seconds of music video magic.

Clap-Shimmy-Head-Nod (3:00)
Just a cool dance move, arguably Bieber's finest in the whole clip. He seems so nonchalant throughout the winning piece of choreography, simply letting the rhythm take hold of him and his boys back him up.

"Watch My Shoes" (3:12)
The King Midas of Pop slays with the close-up on his gold-colored kicks, sliding across the shiny surface with the ease of his mentor, Usher. As the song winds down, Bieber is still flashing swag through the selection and utilization of his footwear.

Kiss? Maybe? (3:20)
The clip cuts to black as Bieber gazes at his girl, perhaps suggesting an impending kiss -- or an awkward goodbye. The climactic smooch never comes, but for the sake of the Bieber-Gomez union, it's for the best, really.

Weekly Chart Notes: Madonna, Justin Bieber, Silversun Pickups

WE LOVE THE '80s: "What's going on family? Can you believe we are sitting on the top of the charts together again?," Lionel Richie Tweeted to Madonna Wednesday (April 4). Madonna's "MDNA" and Richie's "Tuskegee" bow at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, on the Billboard 200 this week.

"There is no one I would rather be on top with," Richie added, to which Madonna wryly replied, "OK, but as long as I'm on top."

Despite boasting a combined five No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 in the '80s, the pair had never ranked in the survey's top two concurrently until this week. The superstar veterans had last charted in the top five together the week of Oct. 4, 1986, when the top of the tally looked like this:

No. 1, "Dancing on the Ceiling," Lionel Richie
No. 2, "Top Gun," soundtrack
No. 3, "Raising Hell," Run-D.M.C.
No. 4, "Fore!," Huey Lewis & the News

No. 5, "True Blue," Madonna

(The artist directly below Madonna and Richie on this week's chart - Adele - was not even born as of that chart date. She turns 24 on May 5.)

GLORY DAYS: Madonna and Richie aren't the only legends with a history of '80s success in this week's Billboard 200 top 10. Bruce Springsteen dips 6-9 with his former No. 1 "Wrecking Ball."

The Queen of Pop and the Boss hadn't shared space in the chart's top region since the week of February 7, 1987, when "Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band 1975-1985" placed at No. 8 and "True Blue" held at No. 10.

The last time that Springsteen and Richie appeared in the top 10 in the same week? Jan. 24, 1987, also the last week that all three acts had charted together in the top bracket until this week. That frame, Springsteen's "Live" remained at No. 2, "True Blue" descended 6-7 and Richie's "Dancing on the Ceiling" stayed at No. 9.

'BOYFRIEND' IS BACK: Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" storms in as the Billboard Hot 100's second-most-popular song. It's also the second-highest-peaking track featuring the word "boyfriend."

As Chart Beat temporarily borrows from Teen Beat, only two songs with the word "boyfriend" in their titles have hit the Hot 100's top 10:

No. 1 (three weeks), "My Boyfriend's Back," the Angels, 1963
No. 2 (as of this week), "Boyfriend," Justin Bieber, 2012

In a chart battle of the sexes, one "girlfriend" song has also reigned, although one more such hit has reached the top 10:

No. 1 (one week), "Girlfriend," Avril Lavigne, 2007
No. 5, "Girlfriend," 'N Sync featuring Nelly, 2002
No. 5, "Girlfriend," Pebbles, 1988

Honorary mention among Hot 100 tributes to going steady: at the height of Beatlemania, teen singer Donna Lynn charted for four weeks with the spoofy "My Boyfriend Got a Beatle Haircut."

Despite piggybacking onto the Beatles' early adoration, Lynn and her song stopped at No. 83 on the March 21, 1964, Hot 100. The same week, the Fab Four (mop-)topped the chart with "She Loves You," which dethroned their first No. 1, "I Want to Hold Your Hand," after seven weeks at the summit.

65(-WEEK) LOVE AFFAIR: Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" ties for the third-longest stay in the Hot 100's 53-year history. At 65 weeks (falling 43-49), the song now trails only Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" (the record-holder with 76 weeks) and LeAnn Rimes' "How Do I Live" (69). Jewel's double-sided "You Were Meant for Me"/" Foolish Games" also logged 65 chart weeks.

("Deep" will need to remain above No. 50 on next week's Hot 100 to tally a 66th frame, as descending songs below the chart's top half are removed after 20 weeks.)

'ENDINGS' BEGINS: Silversun Pickups arrive on Alternative Songs at No. 22 and Rock Songs at No. 39 with "Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)." The track previews the group's third album, "Neck of the Woods," due May 8.

The Los Angeles-based band has scored four Alternative Songs top 10s, including the 2009 No. 1 "Panic Switch."

"There was a playfulness and an experimentation that we lost a little bit of along the way," says Silversun Pickups frontman Brian Aubert. "(The new album was) kind of like, 'let's get back to playing with different drum tones and playing with these pads.' It sounds like a cool, digital drum thing.

"And then it was, 'how do we find the humanity in all that?'

"And then, we played some basketball."

LOS ANGELES | Wed Apr 4, 2012 3:29pm EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Canadian pop phenomenon Justin Bieber made his highest single debut on Wednesday with new track "Boyfriend," debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

More than 559,000 copies were sold of "Boyfriend" in its first week.

Despite the singer's popularity -- 41 million fans on Facebook and 19 million on Twitter -- this is only the third time Bieber has managed to break into the Hot 100 top ten. Previous hit, "Never Say Never" made it to No. 8 last year, and "Baby" notched No. 5 in 2010.

"Boyfriend" sees the 18-year-old singer take a more mature direction with his music, making a transition from catchy pop tunes to heavy R&B beats as Bieber displays his rapping talents.

The track was played 3,961 times on U.S. radio in its first week, an average of 31 plays on each station, making "Boyfriend" the best first-week plays for a song by a male artist in Billboard's Pop Songs chart history.

Bieber was unable to beat chart-toppers fun., who held the Hot 100 No. 1 again with their single "We Are Young," featuring Janelle Monae, which sold 363,000 digital copies last week.

Despite Bieber's song selling more copies than "We Are Young", "Boyfriend" ranked lower on the Hot 100, which measures sales, airplay and on-demand songs from streaming services such as Spotify.

"Boyfriend" was available only on iTunes in its first week, while "We Are Young" was available to stream and purchase from all digital retailers.

Elsewhere on the Hot 100 singles chart, Gotye's quirky break-up song "Somebody That I Used To Know" featuring Kimbra climbed to No. 3, while British boy band The Wanted dropped to No. 4 with their dance anthem "Glad You Came."

Fellow Brits One Direction also entered the top ten with their pop track "What Makes You Beautiful," at No. 9, fueled by the band's recent promotional tour in the U.S.

"American Idol" alum Kelly Clarkson rounded out the top five with the dance-pop track "Stronger."

Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' Lyrics: The 5 Best Lines

by Jason Lipshutz, N.Y.  |   March 21, 2012 5:10 EDT

The Beliebers may have to wait until Monday (Mar. 26) to hear Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" in its entirety, but the pop superstar was kind enough to unveil the full lyrics of his new single on his official web site on Wednesday, so that his fans could submit their own videos of the song using the lyrics. Riddled with tender come-ons, introductions to his falsetto (yes, he literally says "Say hello to falsetto" before presumably reaching new heights with his voice) and the word 'swag,' the Mike Posner-produced track seems to -- from a lyrical standpoint, at least -- up the ante for the teen titan.

What, you ask, are the standout lines in "Boyfriend," the memorable turn-of-phrases that pop fans will be mouthing along to all summer long? Billboard.com was happy to rank (and attempt to decipher) the five best lines from Justin Bieber's latest single:

5. "You could be my girlfriend until the ---- world ends."
This chestnut from verse 2 raises a lot of questions. Is 18-year-old Bieber really ready to commit to one girl (in this case, Selena Gomez) for all of eternity, until the apocalypse arrives? If that's the case, why doesn't he just marry that special girl? Is this line suggesting that Bieber will never choose a wife, and will only be capable of "boyfriend" status until Earth is no more? We've probably read too much into this one already -- let's move on.

4. "Tell me what you like yeah tell me what you don't/I could be your Buzz Lightyear fly across the globe." Classic Pixar reference. Who doesn't like "Toy Story"? Although, technically, Buzz Lightyear never really had any desire to "fly across the globe" -- dude was more of a Space Ranger than a pilot. But it's the thought that counts, and Bieber is demonstrating just how far he would literally travel to please his special girl.

3. "Swaggie." As it exists on the lyrics sheet, this one, crazy word is given its own separate line in the second verse, after the phrase, "Voice goin crazy on this hook like a whirl wind," and before the second pre-hook. What could it be doing there? Bieber has already busted out the "swag" in the song (more on that later); is he now going for the jugular by dropping a context-free "swaggie"? If so, count us on board. Bieber needs a catchphrase, and like his buddy Chris Brown's "leggo," "swaggie" is perfectly cool-sounding nonsense. Can we start printing up a thousand "Swaggie" t-shirts yet?

2. "I'ma make you shine bright like you're laying in the snow/Burr." There's a lot to love in this one -- not only the idea that Bieber's adoration will make his lady shine so bright that it's like she's covered in the crystal-clear whiteness of fresh, powdery snow, but also the extra "Burr" for added emphasis, as if he's convincing his girl that she is, indeed, laying in the snow, and yes, it is cold. There is no game-playing when it comes to Bieber's smooth moves -- when he says that you're shining bright like you're laying in the snow, the simile is so real to him that he actually feels a bit chilly. Someone get this heartthrob a scarf!

1. "Swag swag swag, on you/Chillin by the fire why we eaten' fondue." Let's give credit where credit is due -- did you think it was possible to follow the phrase "Swag swag swag, on you" with an even more awesome line? Not only does Bieber let his audience momentarily wonder how he specifically plans to triple-swag on his girl, he then drops the ultimate image in his listeners' minds: the Biebs and his special lady, sitting by a roaring fire, eating some fondue. Fondue! Most couplets in the English language strive to end with the word "fondue," but more often than not, they fall short. Bieber wastes no time in lyrically embracing the cheesy dessert dish, and immediately creates a lasting image in his first single. (Side note: the lyrics on Bieber's web site read, "Chillin by the fire why we eaten' fondue." This may or may not be a typo and the line could go "Chillin by the fire while we eatin' fondue" in the finished audio, but we hope it remains a question of "why" in the song. Maybe Bieber is expressing a deep-rooted confusion: "Chillin by the fire -- wait, why are we eating fondue? I hate fondue!" We don't know why Bieber and his gal are eating fondue, but perhaps we'll find out soon enough.)

Here are the full lyrics to Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend":

Justin Timberlake part of group buying MySpace (AP)

LOS ANGELES – Justin Timberlake apparently wasn't satisfied with just playing a social media impresario in the movies, so now he's becoming one in real life.

The pop star, who played Napster co-founder Sean Parker in "The Social Network," a movie about Facebook, has joined Specific Media in buying its downtrodden rival, MySpace, from News Corp. in a deal that closed Wednesday.

Timberlake will have an office at MySpace's Beverly Hills headquarters and a staff of about a half dozen people working for him "around the clock" developing his ideas for the site, said Specific Media CEO Tim Vanderhook.

The partners are set to unveil their plans for reviving the flagging site in a couple of months.

"When we met with Justin and we discussed what our strategy was, we hit a chord with him," Vanderhook told The Associated Press. "One of his passions is he really enjoys helping other artists and creating a community for people to really express themselves. I think we were blown away that we were able to get someone like Justin to be so excited about what we were doing."

The deal is for $35 million, mostly in Specific Media stock, according to a person familiar with the matter. That's a small fraction of the $580 million that News Corp. paid for the site six years ago. The sale resulted in the layoff of about half of the site's remaining 500 workers, said the person, who was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

As part of the exchange, News Corp. received a private equity stake in Specific Media and less than a 5 percent stake in MySpace.

With Timberlake's help, the buyers hope to revitalize MySpace and transform it into a destination for original shows, as well as bolster its already available video content and music. Vanderhook said the revamp will include additional investment in technology and maintain the right to stream music through the joint venture it has with major recording companies, MySpace Music.

"There's a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff and just connect," Timberlake, an Emmy and Grammy winning artist, said in a statement. "MySpace has the potential to be that place."

The sale closed a day before the end of News Corp.'s fiscal year, meaning it was able rid itself of about $250 million in losses, estimated Barclays Capital analyst Anthony DiClemente.

Over the last 11 quarters, News Corp. had cumulatively lost about $1.4 billion on the business segment that houses MySpace. It was a disastrous performance by a company that CEO Rupert Murdoch had predicted would reach $1 billion in annual revenue. It never reached that goal.

Walking away from the site was "the right decision," said Standard & Poor's equity analyst Tuna Amobi. "It's something that they should put behind them and kind of move on."

MySpace CEO Mike Jones, the last member of a three-member executive team appointed to fix the site in April 2009, said in a memo to staff Wednesday that he would help with the transition for two months before departing.

MySpace launched in 2003, founded by entrepreneurs Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson, who is every MySpace user's first friend. It became a popular Internet destination and a key way for little-known musicians to market themselves and interact with their fans.

But MySpace lost its footing over the years as the fun of customizing one's profile began to bore its users and heavy use of banner advertisements slowed the speed at which pages load. Meanwhile, Facebook, founded in 2004, limited what users and advertisers could do, but kept pages clean, and freshened them with its "news feed" of updates, a feature that MySpace later copied.

MySpace peaked with 76 million monthly U.S. visitors in October 2008. Advertisers and musicians who once relied on it for promotion fled the site for other hotter social networks like Facebook and, more recently, Twitter.

When Facebook a few years ago began allowing apps, including music functions and addictive games like "FarmVille," MySpace was left in the dust.

Less than half of MySpace's monthly visitors are now in the United States, where its visitor count dropped by half in May to 35 million, according to tracking firm comScore Inc. Facebook now has more than 700 million monthly visitors worldwide, it said.

"Apps were the breaking point and MySpace could never recover from that," said Charlene Li, a social media analyst and founder of Altimeter Group.

Rohit Kulkarni, an 18-year-old member of the San Jose, Calif. pop punk band Four O'Clock Heroes, said his group once exclusively used MySpace to reach fans with their music, but they haven't checked the site in months. They opened their Facebook band page last year.

"Most of our following was already on Facebook anyways," Kulkarni said. "Nowadays, people use Facebook over MySpace because it's integrated into almost everything, like all your mobile phones. I'm guessing that's why it became more popular."

Even "FarmVille" game-maker Zynga has taken a role promoting music, as shown recently when Lady Gaga unveiled her new album there.

Timberlake's involvement is a clear sign that MySpace will try to reconnect with its musical roots. Tim Vanderhook said that the acquisition is about returning MySpace "to what it was supposed to be."

Specific Media, based in Irvine, Calif., brokers the sale of ads to websites and has dabbled in creating original programming and matching it with sponsors. The company was founded in 1999 by brothers Tim, Chris and Russell Vanderhook.

At $35 million, Specific Media gets an Internet property for a price that Altimeter's Li called "ridiculously low" and values each monthly U.S. visitor at about $1 each. Its new owners should be able to recoup their investment if the company gets each user to click on about 20 ads over their lifetime, she said.
