Nile Rodgers and Chic perform Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' for the first time – watch

June 10, 2014 9:26

Rodgers worked on 2013 hit with French duo and Pharrell Williams

Nile Rodgers performed 'Get Lucky', his collaboration with Daft Punk, for the first time at a live show in France over the weekend. See above to watch him and Chic play the song now.

Despite it being released in April 2013, Daft Punk have yet to play live in concert since their return and Rodgers has always refused to put 'Get Lucky' into Chic live sets, preferring instead to play the song over the PA as the band say goodbye at the end of shows.

However, during a performance at Montereau Fault-Yonne in France this changed, as you can see in the video. Rodgers has not yet commented on why he chose to start playing the song. Pharrell Williams, the other collaborator on the original song, also plays it in his live solo show.

Many other artists have covered 'Get Lucky' in the last 12 months, including Daughter, Peace, Mystery Jets, Fall Out Boy and Wilco. In February the Russian police performed the song as part of the Winter Olympics 2014 Opening Ceremony in Sochi.

LOS ANGELES | Tue Mar 26, 2013 8:28pm EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Justin Timberlake's first album since 2006 made a bumper U.S. debut, selling an unexpectedly better 968,000 copies in the first week since its release, according to figures on Tuesday from Nielsen SoundScan.

"The 20/20 Experience" gave Timberlake, 32, the top spot on this week's Billboard 200 album chart and marked the singer's best solo effort yet.

The heavily-promoted release from the former N'Sync boy band singer had been expected to sell about 750,000 copies in its first week.

But after warm reviews and fan fever, the album sold almost 300,000 copies more than the first week sales for Timberlake's last release - 2006's hit album "FutureSex/LoveSounds" - despite an overall decline in album sales in recent years.

"The 20/20 Experience" marks Timberlake's musical comeback after focusing on his movie career in films like "The Social Network" and "Friends with Benefits," launching his own record label, investing in social networking website MySpace, and marrying actress Jessica Biel.

Despite the big first week, Timberlake came in below country-pop singer Taylor Swift's debut in November 2012 when her "Red" album sold 1.2 million copies in its first week.

Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" was released on RCA Records, a unit of Sony Music Entertainment.

This week's full Billboard 200 album chart will be released on Wednesday.

Listen To Mumford & Sons' First 'Babel' Single, 'I Will Wait'

by Brennan Carley, N.Y.  |   August 07, 2012 4:35 EDT

In typically folksy fashion, Mumford & Sons have returned with "I Will Wait" the debut single off the band's upcoming sophomore effort, "Babel," that was unveiled online on Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 7).

At times both hopeful and hopeless, "I Will Wait" showcases bandleader Marcus Mumford's maturation both in terms of songwriting and singing. It fits in comfortably with the songs on the band's debut album, "Sigh No More," yet signals a concerted and promising step forward into heavier territory.

Mumford & Sons Debut New Songs at Tour Kickoff

"I feel heavy into your arms," he sings, before optimistically rhapsodizing about how "these days of darkness which we've known / will blow away with this new sun."

The band performed "I Will Wait" and a handful of other new songs at its tour kickoff in Hoboken, N.J. last week. Their trek continues with their first "Gentlemen of the Road" stopover in Bristol, Conn. this Saturday.

Meanwhile, "Babel" is set to be released on Sept. 25 on Glassnote Records. "Sigh No More," which earned the group a Grammy nod for Best New Artist, has sold 2.4 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Jay-Z will be the first musical performer to play at a new basketball arena under construction in Brooklyn, the Brooklyn-born rap star said on Monday.

Jill Scott tops U.S. album chart for first time (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) – R&B singer Jill Scott scored her first No. 1 album on the U.S. pop album chart Wednesday, ending Eminem's brief reign.

Scott's fourth studio effort, "The Light of the Sun," sold 135,000 copies during the week ended June 26, according to Nielsen SoundScan. She previously went as high as No. 3 with 2004's "Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2."

Right behind her at No. 2 was indie folk band Bon Iver, whose self-titled second full-length album sold 104,000 copies in its first week. This marks both its highest-charting set and best sales week yet. Fronted by singer/songwriter Justin Vernon, Bon Iver's previous high-water mark came when its "Blood Bank" EP debuted and peaked at No. 16 with 23,000 in 2009.

Adele's "21" held at No. 3 with 101,000 copies in its 18th week. With cumulative sales of 2.43 million copies -- and never having slipped below No. 3 -- it is the top-selling album in the U.S. this year.

Jackie Evancho's "Dream With Me" fell two to No. 4 in its second week (77,000). Country singer Justin Moore's second full-length album, "Outlaws Like Me," debuted at No. 5 (65,000). Last week's No. 1, "Hell: the Sequel" -- from the Eminem and Royce da 5'9" alter ego Bad Meets Evil -- slid to No. 6 (63,000).

Pitbull's "Planet Pit" started at No. 7 (55,000). It's his second top 10 set following 2009's "Rebelution," which debuted and peaked at No. 8 with 41,000 copies. Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" fell four to No. 8 (49,000).

Rounding out the new entries in the top 10 was "Weird Al" Yankovic who earned his highest charting album ever as "Alpocalypse" laughed its way to No. 9 (44,000). Led by the single "Perform This Way" (a parody of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way"), the album surpassed his previous career-high peak with his last studio set, 2006's "Straight Outta Lynwood," which debuted and peaked at No. 10 with 73,000.

Jason Aldean's "My Kinda Party" fell five rungs to No. 10 (40,000).

Overall album sales totaled 5.92 million units, down 6% compared to the previous week and down 2% compared to the comparable sales week of 2010. Year to date album sales stand at 149.12 million, up less than 1% compared to the same total at this point last year.

Jill Scott aims for first U.S. chart-topper (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) – R&B singer Jill Scott could be on the verge of earning her first No. 1 album on the U.S. pop album chart with her first release in four years.

Industry sources suggest she could sell as many as 125,000 copies of "The Light of the Sun" by week's end on Sunday. Scott previously went as high as No. 3 with 2004's "Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2."

Also aiming for high debuts when the Billboard 200 chart is published on Wednesday are Bon Iver's self-titled set (with maybe 80,000 copies) and country singer Justin Moore's "Outlaws Like Me" (perhaps 60,000). Gunning for top 10 entries are "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Alpocalypse" and Pitbull's "Planet Pit."

On the current chart Eminem and Royce da 5'9" claimed the top spot after "Hell: The Sequel" sold 171,000 copies during the week ended June 19.
