Morrissey has been released from hospital, it has been reported.

According to True-To-You.net, the former Smiths man was discharged from the Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, California yesterday (November 2) after receiving treatment for concussion, whiplash and an arm injury. However, there are currently no details as to how he received the injuries.

The post read: "Morrissey has now been discharged from Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles following treatment for concussion, whiplash and an arm injury. Morrissey would like to thank the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai for their 'outstanding level of care and attention'."

Meanwhile, Morrissey's Autobiography has landed a Stateside publisher. The book was previously only available in the UK and Europe, through Penguin Classics, but now the New York Times explains that it will be released in North America through GP Putnam's Sons, which is an imprint of Penguin Random House.

No US release date has been announced though, and the New York Times reports that fans in North America have been buying the book at 'inflated prices' through online retailers based in the UK. Meanwhile, in the UK, the long awaited memoir beat the new Bridget Jones novel to top the best sellers chart in its first week of sale last month.

Autobiography sold just under 35,000 copies according to sales figures in trade magazine The Bookseller, while Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones novel Mad About The Boy sold 32,000 copies.

LONDON (Reuters) - British singer George Michael is out of hospital after being treated for head injuries from a car accident two weeks ago, his website said on Wednesday.

The 49-year-old former Wham! frontman, who has been "under observation" since the May 16th accident, has been discharged and is resting, www.georgemichael.com said.

"We can confirm that George Michael has been discharged from hospital and continues to rest and recuperate," the message on Michael's website said. "He is well and thanks everyone for all the messages of support."

British media have reported that the "Careless Whisper" singer fell out of a car he was travelling in on the M1 motorway just outside London during rush hour - the latest of a string of accidents and health scares.

Last year, Michael cancelled a tour of Australia due to "major anxiety" brought on by a 2011 battle with severe pneumonia in Vienna, where he was treated in intensive care for a month.

The singer has sold an estimated 100 million records over his career, but in the past few years has hit the headlines for his personal life more often than for his music.

In 1998 he was arrested in California for "engaging in a lewd act" in a public toilet. He has also had a number of run-ins with British police for possession of narcotics, and served time in jail for driving under the influence of cannabis.

Singer Doc Watson in critical condition, hospital says

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (Reuters) - Grammy winning folk musician Doc Watson is in critical condition at a North Carolina hospital, a representative for the medical facility said on Thursday.

The 89-year-old Watson is a singer of bluegrass, country, blues and gospel who is famous for his flatpicking style on the guitar and his interpretations of folk songs from bygone eras.

Watson, a native of North Carolina, is in critical condition at Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, said Karen Richardson, a spokeswoman for the hospital.

She declined to release any other information about Watson, including when he was admitted and for what health problem.

North Carolina newspaper the Watauga Democrat reported that, according to Watson's friend Tommy Walsh, he was hospitalized on Monday at Watauga Medical Center for an infection, and was transferred on Thursday to Baptist Medical Center. Walsh told the paper he did not know why Watson was transferred.

Watson has won seven Grammy Awards, in addition to a Grammy for lifetime achievement he received in 2004. Most recently, he won in 2006 in the category of best country instrumental performance for his playing on "Whiskey Before Breakfast."

For much of his career, Watson toured and recorded with his son, Merle Watson. Doc Watson's most popular recordings include the songs "Tom Dooley," "Shady Grove" and "Rising Sun Blues."

PARIS (Reuters) - Celebrated German conductor and former East German dissident Kurt Masur was recovering in hospital on Friday after falling off stage at a Paris concert hall while conducting Tchaikovsky's Pathetique Symphony, France's National Orchestra (ONF) said.

Masur, 84, who has been music director of the ONF since 2002, fell some 1.5 meters (yards) into the front row of the audience after losing his balance during the performance of the concert at Paris' Theatre des Champs-Elysees.

A spokeswoman for the orchestra would not say whether the fall was linked to any pre-existing illness.

Masur was taken to the Georges Pompidou hospital in the French capital, where he was found to have sustained no serious injuries. No audience members were hurt in the incident.

"After a reassuring in-depth examination, (Masur) is resting in hospital. He took a few steps this morning and is expected to leave hospital soon," the ONF said in a statement.

Born in Brieg in Silesia, Germany, now Brzeg in Poland, Masur studied piano, music and conducting in Leipzig before receiving his first orchestral appointment as Conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic in 1955.

While head of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, he played a central role in the peaceful protests in Leipzig that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and to German reunification, and attracted worldwide attention for the impact of his leadership.

From 1991 to 2002 he was Music Director of the New York Philharmonic, and was later named Music Director Emeritus, only the second after the late Leonard Bernstein.

In 1995 he was awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, and in 1997 was named Commander of the Legion of Honour in France, a rank which was later upgraded to Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour in 2007.

Country singer Loretta Lynn in hospital with pneumonia (Reuters)

(Reuters) – Country music singer Loretta Lynn, who grew up poor in Kentucky's coal-mining country before rising to fame, has canceled two performances after being diagnosed with pneumonia, a statement on her website said on Saturday.

"Loretta regretfully must cancel her shows ... for this weekend, due to illness," the statement said of the 76-year-old music icon.

The Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, Kentucky, said on its website the singer had been hospitalized, and that her performance would be rescheduled. A spokesman for Lynn was not immediately available for comment.

"Doctors have diagnosed her as the beginning stages pneumonia, and (she) will continue to need rest. Loretta is doing well and is disappointed but feels confident she will be ready for upcoming November dates," the statement on the singer's web site said.

Lynn had been due to perform on Saturday in Ashland followed by a performance on Sunday in Durham, North Carolina. She has upcoming performances scheduled next month in Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and North Carolina.

Lynn, who performs hits including "If You're Not Gone Too Long" and "Don't Come Home A Drinkin'", has released 70 albums and charted 16 No. 1 hits in a career spanning five decades.

She has won two Grammys and written several books, including "Coal Miner's Daughter," which was made into a movie that earned Sissy Spacek an Oscar for her performance as the singer.
