Prince to leave the UK, as US chat show appearance is announced

February 28, 2014 14:54

Singer will appear on 'The Arsenio Hall' show on March 5

Prince will end his stay in the UK to return to America to appear on US chat show The Arsenio Hall Show next week.

The singer and guitarist has staged a number of impromptu live appearances in the UK throughout February, appearing in both London and Manchester. However, it has announced that Prince will appear on US TV next week, chatting and performing on The Arsenio Hall Show on March 5.

As previously reported on NME.COM, Prince played a two-and-a-half-hour set at Manchester’s Academy on Friday night (February 21) – wowing fans with a setlist comprising of new material as well as a wealth of classic hits from his back catalogue. Scroll up to watch 'Let's Go Crazy' now.

The gig came as part of Prince's whistlestop visit to the UK, which previously had only involved gigs in London. However, there was a smattering of dissent in the ranks following Prince's visit up north with fans taking to Twitter afterwards to complain when a second surprise performance was cancelled within hours of being announced.

Unlike the London dates of his Hit And Run Tour, tickets for the gig were sold online in advance, and disappeared within seconds. The remainder were made available on the door when it opened at 7.30pm – with diehard fans queuing from 10pm the day before to get in.

The singer was given the title Miss Adele Adkins MBE by Prince Charles after being named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for services to the music industry. The footage above has no audio but shows Adele chatting to Prince Charles and laughing uproariously as she walks away.

Adele joins fellow musician PJ Harvey as well as broadcaster Aled Jones and author Joanne Harris who are also receiving 'Most Excellent Order of the British Empire' titles this year.

Adele was awarded an Oscar for Best Original Song earlier in February for 'Skyfall', the latest James Bond movie theme song. She also bagged her ninth Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance for 'Set Fire To The Rain' the same month.

The 25-year-old's second album '21' was released in 2011 and has since topped the charts in more than 30 countries, holding on to the UK Offical Album Chart top spot for 23 weeks after its release. Selling 28 million copies worldwide, the album has been named Amazon's best-selling album of all time and has gone platinum in the UK 16 times.

VH1 Orders 'Hollywood Exes,' Starring the Ex-Wives of Prince, R. Kelly & Will Smith

by Lacey Rose, The Hollywood Reporter  |   March 22, 2012 11:25 EDT

VH1 is enlisting the ex-wives of Prince, R. Kelly, Will Smith, Eddie Murphy and baseball star Jose Canseco for "Hollywood Exes," an hourlong series set to bow this summer.

The unscripted show, which has been granted a 10-episode order by the pop culture-themed network, stars Mayte Garcia (formerly Mrs. Prince), Andrea Kelly (formerly Mrs. R. Kelly), Sheree Fletcher (formerly Mrs. Will Smith), Nicole Murphy (formerly Mrs. Eddie Murphy) and Jessica Canseco (formerly Mrs. Jose Canseco).

"These extraordinarily strong women adjusted to and endured a lot while their ex-spouses won fame and fortune defining pop culture for that moment," said Jeff Olde, executive vp original programming and production at VH1.

"Now these women must reinvent themselves again, stepping out of the long shadows cast by their famous husbands and supporting each other as they define the next stage of their lives -- this time on their own terms," he added.

The tentatively titled "Hollywood Exes" sets out to peel back the curtain on Cinderella tales gone wrong. The five women have been friends for several years and are looking to make a name for themselves outside of their bold-face exes.
