Cee Lo Green issues apology for rape comments and returns to Twitter

September 3, 2014 9:51

Singer says his remarks were 'idiotic' and 'untrue'

Cee Lo Green has apologised for controversial remarks he made about rape on Twitter earlier this week.

The singer deleted his account on the social networking site on September 2 after posting a series of tweets relating to a recent court case in which he pleaded no contest to supplying ecstasy to a woman.

Green escaped jail time last month after pleading no contest to drugs charges. The singer was accused of secretly slipping ecstasy into the drink of his dinner date at a sushi restaurant in July 2012, and was sentenced to three years of formal probation and ordered to complete 360 hours of community service.

An earlier rape charge relating to the same alleged incident was dropped due to insufficient evidence. Writing on Twitter, Green had remarked: "People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!" and "If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent."

Although Green removed his profile from Twitter after receiving criticism for his remarks, he has now reactivated his account and has issued an apology. "I truly and deeply apologize for the comments attributed to me on Twitter," he wrote. "Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe."

Earlier today, meanwhile, it was revealed that Green's reality TV show The Good Life has been cancelled. MTV reports that US cable network TBS decided not to renew the programme for a second season after it returned disappointing viewing figures for its first six-episode run.

Grooveshark Issues a DMCA Takedown Notice Against Infringing Programmers...

When it comes to DMCA takedowns, Grooveshark is generally a company that likes to receive. But now, it turns out they also give on occasion.

Grooveshark (through parent Escape Media Group) appears to have sent this DMCA takedown notice to developers using their source code illegally.  Grooveshark didn't respond to the email listed on this takedown notice, which was posted on github (an inquiry was also sent to Grooveshark CEO Sam Tarantino.)

And, this would be the familiar result.

NEW YORK | Wed Apr 3, 2013 8:05pm EDT

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora has dropped out of the current leg of the rock band's tour because of "personal issues," but the guitarist, who has done stints in rehab for problems with alcohol, tweeted fans on Wednesday that he was "well."

"Thank you everyone for your concern," Sambora said on Twitter. "I'm well, but had to stay in LA to take care of a personal matter. Love you all and see you very soon."

Sambora, 53, who spent time in rehab in 2007 and 2011 for alcohol and prescription drug abuse, was not included at Bon Jovi's performance in Calgary, Alberta, on Tuesday and the band said he would miss a run of North America concerts.

"Due to personal issues, Richie Sambora will not be performing on this upcoming leg. All shows will go on as scheduled," said a statement on the band's website on Wednesday, offering no other details or when Sambora might resume performing.

Sambora also missed Bon Jovi's 2011 North American and European tours.

Celebrity website TMZ.com, citing unnamed sources connected to the band, said Sambora's absence was due to long-running tension between the guitarist and singer Jon Bon Jovi.

Bon Jovi is scheduled to perform this week in Edmonton, Alberta, and Winnipeg, Manitoba, and St. Paul, Minnesota, on Sunday.

The "Because We Can" tour's April dates include Los Angeles, Denver, Las Vegas and other cities before international appearances kick off on May 7 in Capetown, South Africa.

The band is set to play in Sweden, Germany, Britain, Spain, Poland and Italy before returning to the United States in July.

by Sarah Maloy, N.Y.  |   May 24, 2012 5:20 EDT

Kelly Clarkson Kelly Clarkson tackles demons of sorts in her new video for "Dark Side." As the singer showcases people facing drug addiction, alcoholism, unemployment, weight issues and marital problems in "Dark Side," which premiered today (May 24), Clarkson sings of how better days are to come.

"Everybody's got a dark side. Do you love me? Can you love mine?" she belts on the inspirational track. The sun rises as the track picks up and the shots of drugs, alcohol and sadness are replaced by cheerful imagery.

As the video comes to a close, Clarkson exchanges comforting hugs with those struggling with their problems; accepting each one of them despite their "dark side."

Clarkson premiered "Dark Side" Sunday night (May 20) at the Billboard Music Awards, in a mash-up with her hit "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)." Now a decade removed from her "American Idol" victory in 2002, the 30-year-old singer will be returning to TV as a judge on ABC's "Duets," airing tonight.
